Swami Sound System, Vol. 1: 2003 Sales Conference
Swami is the name of a new garage rock record label headed by John Reiss, whose time should be spoken for, busy writing and touring with Rocket From the Crypt and Hot Snakes (both included on this comp). Swami is obviously where Reiss’ heart resides, down on the murky, oil-stained concrete where engines bleed before they roar. Standout tracks include Beehive and the Barracudas’ smart, stabbing slam “Action” (“We want some /We get none!”) complemented by the world’s shortest and arguably noisiest guitar solo. Besides owning possibly the best band name ever, Mannequin Piss also clocks in with the maddening two-minute catastrophic crunch of “Mechanic’s Joy Ride.” It costs a mere five bucks, so try to find an excuse not to own this.
