University Farm takes first
Chico State’s farm named No. 1 for sustainability
The Chico State University Farm—formally known as the Paul L. Byrne Memorial Agricultural Teaching and Research Center—was recently ranked first in the country for sustainability by website College Values Online. Butte College also made the list, and was ranked No. 30.
The website took into account factors including farm size, certified organic status, having animal components, classes taking place at farm facilities and selling food to campus dining halls. About 10 percent of the University Farm's 800 acres is certified organic, as is the farm's dairy.
Chico State also ranked No. 30 on a College Values Online list of schools offering the most value to agriculture students.
