Trump development a bogie
Several Scottish environmentalists and residents of a village north of Aberdeen are up in arms over Donald Trump’s plan to turn a remote coastline area at the Menie Estate into an upscale development and golf resort.
According to The Associated Press, the American tycoon’s proposed $2 billion project would include two 18-hole golf courses, a 450-room hotel, 950 vacation homes, and 500 upscale homes. Residents of nearby Balmedie oppose the plan for a number of reasons, but especially because the development would ruin the peaceful Scottish coastline.
The region is home to seven species of endangered rare birds, such as Skylarks, Lapwings and Redshanks. During a press conference at the estate last week, Trump told reporters the project would actually enhance the environment. Protestors didn’t buy his claims, saying it would hurt not only the coastline, but also locals who will be priced out of the region.
