Local doc honored for work with migrant patients

Hilton Perez, MD, health care administrator of Ampla Health in Chico, was one of 30 medical professionals from around the country and abroad recently recognized by Migrant Clinicians Network for their work with migrant individuals and their families.

Migrant Clinicians Network is a nonprofit with international ties and an office in Chico dedicated to physician education and professional development. This May, the organization is celebrating 30 years of working to “create practical solutions at the intersection of poverty, migration and health,” according to MigrantClinician.org.

Perez (pictured) has worked in health care for more than three decades, including the last five years with Ampla in Chico. He’s been honored for bridging the clinical and administrative worlds and his empathetic approach to treating patients who are new to the U.S. and “don’t know the rules; they are afraid and they don’t know who to contact,” he said.
