Blessed are we in the North State. Come winter, we have some of the best slopes in the West within a three-hour radius.

Tahoe is the crown jewel, of course, with its concentration of ski and snowboard runs (plus resort towns for unathletic snow lovers, too). Smaller and closer is Shasta.

Brush up on your etiquette, make sure your’ve got the right gear, then head on out. If you don’t like free-riding or halfpipes, consider snowmobile tours or snowshoeing. Whatever you choose, don’t forget a little après ski refreshment.
