Three young souls

A drive-by shooting, possible overdose and train collision take lives

This past weekend in Chico, three young men lost their lives within 24 hours of each other, in three very different incidents: a drive-by shooting, a possible overdose and a train collision.

The first was Shoua Her, a 19-year-old Asian man who was killed in a drive-by shooting at the corner of Park Avenue and 20th Street on Saturday (Sept. 27). Chico police say Her was killed and a passenger in his car wounded when occupants of a red or maroon SUV shot at them and then raced away. Police say the incident may have been gang-related, although Shoua had no known gang affiliations.

Then there was Robert Sheehan Jr., a 21-year-old Chico State student whose roommates called 911 Saturday because he appeared not to be breathing. He was pronounced dead on the scene; the police are calling it a possible overdose, but have ruled out suicide or foul play and are awaiting an autopsy.

The third incident occurred early Sunday morning along the railroad tracks behind Warner Petroleum. Johnpaul Sbragiazoricic, a 20-year-old Chico State student, was struck by a train while on foot. He was taken to Enloe Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
