UCSF launches new online repository for sugar science information.

Researchers from UC San Francisco recently launched a website designed to inform consumers about the health effects of fructose and refined sugars.

The SugarScience Initiative at SugarScience.org uses sound bites and simple graphics, along with more in-depth essays, to help people sort through the overwhelming amount of information on sugar—specifically from soda—that the public has been bombarded with, according to SFGate.com. The researchers pored over thousands of scientific articles on sugar to produce the website.

Laura Schmidt, lead investigator on the project, said there’s “a lot of confusion and misperception and conflicting information” regarding sugar and health.

“We wanted to develop an authoritative, go-to place where people can get truthful information,” she said.
