According to the most recent county health profile released by the California Department of Public Health, the most common cause of death in Butte County (based on an average of the years 2011 through 2013) is cancer, with 500.3 cancer-related deaths per year. Of the specific types listed, lung cancer is the most prevalent (with 128 deaths a year), followed by colorectal cancer (39), prostate cancer (31) and female breast cancer (29).
