Looking at sales tax figures provided by the city of Chico, it’s easy to see where the big breadwinners sit. Southeast Chico—made up of all the big boxes along East 20th Street and Forest Avenue (including Wittmeier Auto Center)—brings in 22 percent of the city’s sales tax revenue. For the third quarter of 2006, here is a breakdown of key areas and their sales tax numbers (some areas were left out because the bulk of their revenues come from food sales, which are not discussed in this article):
