The Grateful Bed gets green stamp
Bed and breakfast goes green
The Grateful Bed, one of Chico’s most beloved bed and breakfasts, recently became the first hotel in town to be certified as a “Green Hotel” by the California Green Lodging Program, according to a note from the B&B’s innkeepers, Rick and Carol Turner.
The Turners applied for the certification after Carol looked at California’s criteria for green-lodging certification and realized that the hotel was already using most of the green practices listed, such as implementing energy-saving light bulbs, appliances and windows throughout the hotel, and keeping lighting and sprinkler systems on a timer.
In addition, Carol pays attention to the little things, such as buying soap that’s packaged in recycled paper and sweeping sidewalks instead of hosing them down.
The Grateful Bed is now one of about 200 establishments in California to receive the certification.
