The future of local farming

In the CN&R’s annual Farm to Table Issue, we set out to provide a snapshot of today’s local farming landscape, as those in the industry worry about a dearth of young folks joining Butte County’s biggest industry.

We check in with a longtime local rancher and farmers’ market board chairman about local food providers; we discuss the challenges facing two couples who got into agriculture despite not having come from farming backgrounds; and we interview local educators about how they’re integrating food gardens and animal-raising into school curricula.
