Teen killed in police shooting

A 19-year-old Magalia woman, Breanne Michelle Sharpe, was shot to death by Chico Police officers after allegedly wheeling a car toward them in the early morning hours of Sept. 22.

According to CPD press releases, officers responding to a report of a person attempting to enter parked vehicles on Coit Tower Way at about 2 a.m. followed a dark-colored Honda coupe westbound on East Eighth Street. After a short pursuit, five officers fired into the car as the driver drove toward them and collided with two police cars.

Sharpe was shot twice and pronounced dead at Enloe Medical Center. In accordance with CPD protocol, the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted. Sharpe was on probation stemming from a February arrest for vehicle theft and high-speed vehicle pursuit.
