Paradise Intermediate teacher recognized by PG&E Solar Teaching by example
Greg Holman, a science teacher from Paradise, had a big day Saturday (July 17). He got to throw the ceremonial pitch at the San Francisco Giants game. Why, you ask? Because he’s been instrumental in Paradise Intermediate School’s involvement with PG&E’s Solar Schools Program.
“Back in 2004-2005, we were looking at things our school could do to be more energy efficient and we stumbled across PG&E’s program,” Holman said by phone. He’s helped the school get about $40,000 in grants over the years. “It’s a great way to get funding when school funding these days is nonexistent.”
Holman is the 2010 PG&E Solar Schools Inspirational Educator of the Year, an honor he said came as a complete surprise. His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, however, with videos on YouTube highlighting the school’s Evergreen 6 program, which he teaches. Nine students who have gone above and beyond in the solar program were also honored at Saturday’s game.
