Sustainable classroom
Evergreen class lives up to its name
The Evergreen Sixth Grade Academy at Paradise Intermediate School is implementing a program called Greenovation, which combines state-of-the-art lighting techniques with online curriculum.
According to Greenovation, the program will begin by installing an energy-efficient Lutron Balance LC lighting control system that uses a Web-enabled energy meter. Lighting within the classroom can be controlled automatically or manually to ensure the best lighting for student learning.
Throughout the day, the meter records real-time energy use in the classroom and communicates that data back to the classroom through proprietary software. Students can then analyze the relations between reducing lighting levels and saving energy over the course of the day.
With the Greenovation program, the academy will be able to reduce up to 60 percent of its energy usage.
