Sunny D’s latest squeeze: Going green
Drink co. goes zero waste
Sunny Delight Beverages Co., which makes popular orange-flavored drinks for kids, reached its goal of becoming a “zero-waste-to-landfill” company at its manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Spain three years ahead of schedule, according to the company’s 2009 Sustainability Report.
Since 2009, the company has successfully made its six manufacturing plants zero-waste facilities, a process that involves recycling materials for other uses instead of sending them to the landfill. The company saved $169,000 in direct costs last year alone since implementing the changes.
The drink company also has promised to begin using only recyclable plastic pallets by the end of this year.
