Suicide Girls—The First TourEpitaphEven the most casual Internet sex surfer knows about suicidegirls.com. The membership site features sexy and fun nude and semi-nude shots of young models, most of whom sport multiple tats, dyed hair, body piercings and various punk rock and S&M fashions. The popularity of these pink-and-black framed pinups has made the term Suicide Girl a defining one for a whole generation of sexually confident rocker grrrls. This new DVD follows a group of Suicide Girls on a 2003-04 punk-rock burlesque tour across the U.S. and U.K., with footage of live performances (acts include a Reservoir Dogs ear-cutting reenactment/lap dance) being broken up with model interviews and life-on-the-road footage. The allure of the Suicide Girls is that even if you aren’t into leather and piercings, the models are real women, not typical air-brushed pinups, or porn stars with basketball implants. For this viewer (voyeur), the S&M/punk rock antics of the live shows (as well as the action in the bonus Probot music video, featuring Dave Grohl and Motorhead’s Lemmy) tend to marginalize the enterprise, shoving it into the at times un-sexy “alternative culture” marketing category, but it’s still a lot of fun to watch.
