Chico State lowers flag in memory of 21-year-old Nickolas Klein
Chico State’s flag was lowered on Wednesday (April 1) in memory of 21-year-old student Nickolas Klein (pictured), who was fatally struck by an SUV in the south campus neighborhood on Saturday (March 28).
Klein was hit while crossing the intersection of West Seventh and Hazel streets shortly after 8 p.m., prompting multiple 911 calls, according to a Chico Police Department press release. He was later pronounced dead at Enloe Medical Center.
Klein came to Chico State from Tuolumne in 2011, and was pursuing a major in mechanical engineering, according to Chico State officials. Professor Gregory Watkins said Klein “was a quiet student who nevertheless was very engaged and excited about his work.”
An investigation by CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is ongoing.
