Chico State student shot and killed at house party in south campus neighborhood

A fight at a house party in the south campus neighborhood turned deadly over the weekend, as Chico State student Travis Taylor Powell, 22, was shot and killed and five others were seriously injured.

Early in the morning of Saturday (March 7), Powell was attending a party near West Seventh and Oak streets, where a fight broke out and spilled into the roadway, police reported in a press release. Officers responded to a report of a shooting shortly after 1 a.m.; Powell and two other people had been shot, two more were stabbed and another was struck in the face with a glass bottle. Powell died after being taken to Enloe Medical Center.

As of press time, Chico police hadn’t identified any suspects in the homicide. Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to call the Chico Police Department Detective Bureau at 897-5820.
