Street sweeper crime spree

A Chico man was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers Nov. 16 after allegedly engaging in a bizarre crime spree that included crashing a stolen street sweeper on Highway 99.

Patrick Crick, 30, was arrested at around 10 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Chico for trespassing. After being released from Butte County Jail in Oroville later that night, Crick allegedly stole a street sweeper from the parking lot at Home Depot, across the street from the jail, and headed toward Chico, but crashed the vehicle near Eaton Road at about 1:30 a.m.

The driver was not present when CHP officers arrived at the crash scene, but Crick was arrested in the parking lot of Action News Now on Silverbell Road shortly after. The news station reported Crick was trying to enter the building at the time of his arrest.
