Steve’s bike path
It didn’t take long after Steve Harrison’s death for him to get some recognition. The Chico City Council, at its Tuesday (Sept. 4) meeting, voted 6-1 to name the new Potter Road bike path after the late Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. executive, whose body was found in the Sacramento River on Aug. 16, a week after he disappeared. Whether he committed suicide or was the victim of an accident has not been determined.
Ed McLaughlin, president of the Chico Velo bicycling club, said the honor was appropriate because Harrison had been the biggest supporter of creating the bike path allowing cyclists to connect with Honey Run Road without having to go on the Skyway.
“He’d been on my back for years to get this job done,” McLaughlin told the council.
The lone dissenter was Councilman Larry Wahl, who thought more time was needed and the designation was “too quick, emotional and abrupt.”
