Step Up
Christ, is the tweener market the only demographic that The Suits feel like making movies for anymore? Yet another hackneyed (and self-cannibalized script) from the writer of Save the Last Dance. Aside from that, we’ve seen this movie so many times over the years with so many different vanilla titles: misunderstood street thug Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) gets busted trashing the Maryland School of Arts, where he is in turn sent to work off his community service as a janitor. Of course, he immediately hooks up with a student from the right side of the tracks who needs a dance partner for her big audition. I’m assuming that there is a computer program that spits these things out. Pretty much a movie only for people who like to watch other people dance, and ogle over the nifty outfits that accessorizes each of the routines. Admittedly, Tatum and costar Jenna Dewan can dance, but it’s when they’re not hoofing it that Step Up steps in it.
