State smoking rate continues to fall
It’s one of just two states that have met a federal Healthy People 2020 target
Fewer California adults are smoking cigarettes than ever before, reports the California Department of Public Health. In 2010, the percentage was 11.9 percent, down from 13.1 percent in 2009, making California one of only two states to reach the federal Healthy People 2020 target of reducing the rate to 12 percent. As the chart indicates, 25 years ago nearly a third of California adults smoked.
