State historical commission comes to town

It will hold its quarterly meeting in Chico, starting with a tour of Bidwell Mansion

Here’s some good timing: the State Historical Resources Commission (SHRC) will be in town Thursday and Friday (Jan. 19 and 20) to, among other things, tour the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park just as the old pink house faces closure due to state budget cuts. The SHRC is a nine-member state review board responsible for identifying, registering and preserving California’s cultural heritage.

City of Chico Senior Planner Bob Summerville (pictured), who authored the city’s historic-preservation ordinance, said the tour of the mansion will take place today (Jan. 19) beginning at 11:30 a.m. A trolley tour from Chico to the Patrick Ranch will follow.

On Friday, at 9 a.m. in the Old Municipal Building in downtown Chico, the board will hold its regular quarterly meeting, Included on the agenda are resolutions recognizing the mansion, the Chico Heritage Association and the city of Chico.
