Spend holidays the sustainable way

Local eco-friendly Waste Management is encouraging residents to go easy on the environment this holiday season by offering some excellent sustainability tips by Justin Caporusso.

• Reduce the carbon footprint associated with food celebrations by purchasing local ingredients, which are often more healthful than store-bought fare.

• When decorating, instead of purchasing manufactured items, use the natural environment. Pick up and press beautiful leaves for table decorations. (Pine cones, gourds and dried corn also look nice.)

• Before hitting the road to visit friends or family, stop at a service station and use the air machine. Keeping tires properly inflated gives vehicles better gas mileage, saving resources and money. Also, consider carpooling.
