Smucker Natural Foods Inc. announced recently that its new 157,000-square-foot warehouse in Chico has attained LEED certification.

The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the building the gold-level certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for a number of green-design and construction features that have an impact on the greater community, including measures taken to reduce water consumption, energy costs and the use of fossil fuels. Additionally, the building was constructed largely with recycled materials on a sustainable site.

Keeping it green is not a new concept to Smucker, which offers more than 200 products, including juices, organic and natural sodas and fair trade teas. The company also manufactures the brands R.W. Knudsen Family and Santa Cruz Organic, and is currently achieving a 98.5 percent reuse and recycle rate.
