Silver screen goin’ green
Universal Studios is calling Hollywood comedy Evan Almighty the first feature film to “zero-out” its ecological footprint.
The film stars Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman and Lauren Graham, and was directed by Tom Shadyac, who also spearheaded the environmentally friendly portions of the project. According to Universal, the director worked closely with The Conservation Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting habitat.
During production, eco-friendly efforts included offsetting carbon emissions by planting thousands of trees at the primary filming location and providing bicycles to crew members to encourage carbon-free transportation. Additionally, the movie has recently been released on DVD in special earth-friendly cases that use soy-based ink.
