The final voter registration numbers for the 2004 Presidential election are out (http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections and http://clerk-recorder.buttecounty.net), and despite huge voter registration drives throughout the country the percentage of eligible voters to register in California is up just 1.81 percent from 2000’s numbers. In Butte County the jump was more than double that, with 79.92 percent of eligible voters registering in 2004 as compared to 75.3 percent in 2000. Below are the registration numbers by party in Butte County, with breakdowns for each city (or town). There was a decline in the percentage of registrants for the two major parties from 2000 to 2004 (R: down 1.22 percent; D: down 2.52 percent) while “declined to state” applicants rose (up 3.16 percent from 2000).
