FCC: Few Control Communications
Next week the Federal Communications Commission will vote on whether to let one company own up to eight radio stations (not to mention two TV stations and a newspaper) in one city. Here is a look at who owns the radio stations in Butte County. Over the years more and more media outlets have fallen into fewer and fewer hands. Currently, one company, Clear Channel, owns one-third of the stations in Butte County. Could be worse. The same company owns six of the seven stations in Minot, N. D. And on June 2 the FCC could make monopolies even easier to create.
