Chico man sentenced to life for attempted murder
On July 15, Robert Duane Duggan was sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder in connection with an attack at a Chico residence last spring in which he shot out the eye of an unnamed victim.
According to a press release from the Butte County District Attorney’s Office, in the early morning hours of April 12, 2014, the victim went to his front door when he heard the doorknob jiggling. Duggan was outside and demanded $100. The victim, who wore a patch over his right eye during testimony, told the court that he refused and tried to shut the door, at which time Duggan shot him at least five times with a 9mm pistol—taking out his eye, and also hitting him in the shoulder, leg and back. He crawled to a neighbor’s, who called 911.
Duggan was also found guilty of aggravated mayhem, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine.
