Save our water!

Tips for conserving water outdoors

California is officially suffering a drought, so it’s a no-brainer that we should all be finding ways to conserve water. Given that in some places 50 percent or more of our water use goes to lawns and outdoor landscaping, here are some tips for conserving water outside:

• Watering early in the morning or later in the evening will save 25 gallons each time you water.

• Adding a layer of mulch around plants and trees will reduce evaporation and save 20 to 30 gallons every watering per 1,000-square-foot area.

• Planting drought-resistant trees and plants can result in a water savings of 30 to 60 gallons per watering for every 1,000-square-foot area.
