Safe and sane

Avoid fires and fines on the 4th of July

When adding spark and sizzle to your Independence Day celebration, keep safety and legality in mind. These tips, provided by The California Fireworks Newswire (www.ca-fireworks.presskit247.com) and fireworks manufacturer Phantom, can help decrease the chance your party gets crashed by first-responders:

Legality: Fireworks are illegal in Butte County, except in Oroville and Gridley, though they are available for sale in all of nearby Tehama County and at select locations in Glenn County.

Safety: Fireworks should be handled only by sober adults. The display site should be a non-flammable surface away from brush and other hazards. Wet down the area before lighting, and keep a hose nearby.
