Roads may take $9M hit
Butte County officials alarmed by potential multi-million-dollar loss of funds
Butte County stands to lose as much as $9 million when, as seems likely, the state “takes” two years’ worth of the local share of gas tax from cities and counties, county officials announced June 17. The county maintains more than 1,300 miles of roadway.
“This seizure of our gas tax would have a devastating impact on our local roads, our workforce, public safety, and our local economy,” Bill Connelly, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, said in a press release. “We will fight this every step of the way.”
