Right on, Golden State!
California tops chart for energy efficiency
California is the most energy-efficient state in the United States, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, which ranks states based on six categories of energy efficiency.
This is the third year the council has ranked the states on its State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. The organization’s evaluation is based on categories ranging from government initiatives and building practices to transportation policies and public health programs.
While California has topped the charts each year, several other states—including Maine, which moved from the No. 19 spot to No. 10—have risen significantly in the council’s ranks since last year.
The council noted that the strides the states made to become more energy efficient have come despite the struggling economy.
