Richie in Paradise …
‘60s folk music legend Richie Havens returns to the Paradise Performing Arts Center Thursday, Jan. 24. Havens grew up in Brooklyn and was a key figure around the folk music/beat scene in Greenwich Village, having rubbed shoulders with such equally legendary personages as Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Fred Neil, Jack Kerouac, Dino Valenti and later Jimi Hendrix. But Havens is perhaps best known for opening the original three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 with a smoldering version of "Handsome Johnny." Tickets: $18 general; $16 student/senior; add $2 at the door. Presented by North Valley Productions. Performing Arts Center, 777 Nunneley Rd., Paradise. More information: NVP, 345-8136 or PPAC, 872-8454.
