Retailers poised for closure
The Gap and Weekend Wearhouse prepare to shut their doors in Chico
Two stores that have long served Chico’s fashion needs will be shutting their doors soon. This month, The Gap in the Chico Mall and Weekend Wearhouse in downtown’s Garde—n Walk Mall both announced closures.
“Gap has been a great tenant in our center for many years,” said Lynette Myers, marketing director at the Chico Mall. She did find a way to put a positive spin on the store’s leaving, however. “We view it as an opportunity to enhance the retail offerings at our center to better meet the demands of our customers.”
Weekend Wearhouse, a store mainly targeting the female student population, announced earlier this month that it will be going out of business. It’s currently selling off inventory and fixtures at reduced prices.
“We are extremely sad to announce that after 27 years of being a locally owned business we are going out of business,” reads a post on Weekend Wearhouse’s Facebook page.
