Reimers reassesses his future
Assessor retires after 14 years in office
Butte County Assessor Ken Reimers (pictured) announced he was retiring last Thursday (March 26) after 14 years in office and 37 years working in the Assessor’s Office. His last day of work will be April 30.
Reimers worked as an appraiser for more than 22 years, serving under five previous assessors, before being elected assessor in November 1994.
As reported in these pages (“What’s your house worth?” Newslines, Feb. 12), his office has been extraordinarily busy lately resetting the appraised values of all homes purchased between 2004 and 2008, to reflect their decline in value brought on by the housing slump. The office lost one full-time position to budget cuts in March and could face additional staff cuts in May.
