Reasons to ride

Butte Regional Transit isn’t banking on conscience alone for its “Spare the Air Week” campaign.

Yes, the B-line buses will be free from April 30 through May 5, which should make at least a small dent in auto emissions—the cause for 70 percent of the county’s air pollution.

But there’s an added incentive: onboard entertainment. Historians, environmentalists and even some elected officials will ride on select routes each day to share their expertise and opinions. Guest speakers include naturalist Roger Cole, historian John Gallardo, county Supervisor Maureen Kirk, Chico Mayor Andy Holcombe and City Councilman Scott Gruendl.
