Rawlins winners revealed

Chico State public relations students earn environmental award

Chico State announced that five public-relations students are the recipients of this year’s Jack Rawlins Environmental Prize.

Seniors Katelyn Davis, Ashley Gunther, Emilie Johnson, Jessica Mindt and Elise Watkins will share the $6,000 Rawlins prize for their campaign designed to educate other Chico State students about the importance of energy conservation.

The five students began the project in a public-relations strategy class taught by Debra Johnson, a professional-in-residence at the university. The women will work on the campaign for the next six months, assessing the student body’s knowledge of sustainable issues and conducting education through advertising and promotions.

They will also focus on a freshman outreach program and a celebration in the spring. Giving more good news to the students, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has offered to pay for the cost of the campaign.
