The Combat Jack Show
Started by music-industry attorney Reggie Ossé (aka Combat Jack), and promoted as a “weekly online radio show comprised of a diverse array of personalities with an overall love and appreciation for hip-hop culture, fashion, music, and current events … ” The Combat Jack Show is one of the premier hip-hop podcasts in the country. The show has featured everyone from Chuck D to Russell Simmons talking about their work, lives and hip-hop journeys, and one of the most recent episodes featured the story of producer/emcee/and hip-hop professor 9th Wonder (who has taught classes on hip-hop at Duke University and Harvard). Combat Jack's interview is captivating as 9th Wonder chronicles his individual evolution as an artist, noting, among other things, how his original rap crew, Little Brother, accidentally provided a blueprint on how to build an online following that then-unknown emcees like Drake and Childish Gambino employed before exploding onto the mainstream stage. It's not a stretch to say that 9th Wonder probably played a role in schooling your favorite emcee and, through his role in academia, is now schooling the next generation of hip-hop scholars.
