Project on the move
Developer relocates proposed homeless housing facility after backlash
The proposed Base Camp Village is still in the works, just not in Thermalito.
Project developer Ron Reed (pictured) has faced considerable criticism surrounding the initial proposed location of his transitional housing complex, 1240 10th St. (See “A welcome home?” Newslines, June 14.)
Reed, a defense attorney, intends to house 28 formerly homeless individuals with mental illness in partnership with Butte County Behavioral Health. He chose not to disclose the new location he’s been eyeing, but told the CN&R it’s in a residential area of Oroville. The county is helping him with the transition.
“I really believe in the project … and I’m not going to back off on that at all, but I want the community to be a part of it,” Reed said.
