Check home for air leaks
Summers in Chico are notoriously beastly. So while the temperatures are still relatively cool, it’s a good time to assess your house or apartment to see where you could save on energy costs when the heat wave hits. The U.S. Department of Energy has put together a handy guide to self-evaluating your energy use (go to www.energysavers.gov/your_home/energy_audits for more info). Below is a list of places to check for air leaks. Plug or caulk holes to keep your energy costs down.
Electrical outlets
Switch plates
Window frames
Baseboards
Weather stripping around doors
Fireplace dampers
Attic hatches
Wall- or window-mounted air conditioners
