Planning the park
A quick outline of the master management plan update process
Creating a master management plan for an entity the size of Bidwell Park is a long process, especially when you consider that it’s been 15 years since the plan was last updated.
Last fall, the city of Chico brought in Sacramento design firm EDAW and held a public scoping meeting to gather input and pitch possible ideas for the update, as well as identify possible topics to be addressed in the attending environmental-impact report.
A Citizens Advisory Committee was then created, and a schedule of seven (now eight) public CAC meetings (which includes presence of both city staff and EDAW reps) began on Jan. 13. After the final two CAC meetings, the Bidwell Park and Playground Committee will receive the draft MMP and make its recommendations, then both the draft MMP and the draft EIR will go to public comment before being sent to the Chico City Council for final approval.
