Panama’s Mowry: No contest

Robert Mowry, owner of downtown Chico’s Panama Bar & Café, University Bar and The Beach, pleaded no contest Nov. 29 to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct in connection to the discovery last December of a video camera hidden in Panama’s restroom. Officers were alerted at the time by a patron who’d seen an employee watching a live feed of the patron’s girlfriend using the facility. A second camera was found in a restroom in the adjoining University Bar. Charges related to that camera were dropped. Mowry said the hidden cameras were intended to catch vandals. With the plea, he faces a day in jail, three years’ probation, 200 hours of community service and a fine.
