One-Mile fall victim identified
22-year-old was graduating Chico State Ag student
The woman who died from injuries sustained after falling out of a tree in Bidwell Park has been identified as a 22-year-old Chico State University student.
Police responded to a call for help at 1:38 a.m. Sunday (April 28) morning. The woman, Marissa Madrid, fell from a tree on the south side of Sycamore Pool at One Mile Recreation Area, hitting her head on concrete. She succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Enloe Hospital.
According to a Tuesday (April 30) press release from the university, Madrid was an animal-science major in the university’s College of Agriculture. Hailing from the Sacramento area, she transferred to CSU in 2010. She was expected to graduate this fall and planned to participate in commencement ceremonies later this month.
Madrid’s sole companion at the time of the incident told police she had been drinking in downtown bars earlier in the evening. Autopsy and toxicology reports are still pending.
