Butte County is home to 97,237 acres of bearing fruit- and nut-bearing trees, and you might be surprised to know that English walnuts have overtaken almonds as the top crop—acreage-wise. Not only that, farmers are planting more walnuts than any other crop. In 2014, there were 3,282 acres of nonbearing walnuts (i.e., newly planted trees). A far second was almonds with 496 acres of nonbearing trees. Here are the top 10 bearing tree crops, by acreage, according to the 2014 Butte County Agricultural Crop Report.
