No go, Boys & Girls
Only Fairview High chooses to contract with the club
The Boys & Girls Club of Chico is in the midst of quite a shakeup. First off, the organization’s longtime CEO, Maureen Price, had her last day Wednesday (June 30). Starting today, Rashell Brobst takes the reins.
The transition in management couldn’t come at a more tumultuous time. In May, the CN&R reported that the Chico Unified School District had opted out of a contract with the club that equaled about $335,000 a year for about 300 students. At that time, CUSD gave individual schools the option of continuing to contract with the Boys & Girls Club or growing after-school programs on campus. As of Wednesday, the only school to choose to contract with the club was Fairview High School.
The severe cut in funding—and in enrollment—will mean a severe cut in staffing. Contacted in the midst of the transition, neither Price nor Brobst were able to say just how severe those cuts would be.
