Just down the path from the Madrone Avenue entrance to Lower Bidwell Park is a memorial bench dedicated to Nicole Carol Miller, a lovely, vibrant young woman—she was only 21—from San Jose who was on United Airlines Flight 93 when it crashed in a Pennsylvania field on Sept. 11, 2001. These days the bench, put there by her father and stepmother, David and Catherine Miller, of Chico, is covered with flowers and other tributes in acknowledgement of the third anniversary of Nicole’s death. Anyone who would like to learn more about her can go to this site, which contains a short bio, a number of photos of Nicole and her family members, and tributes and remembrances from family members, friends and people from around the world who have discovered the site and found it touching. Nicole was a frequent visitor to Chico and was thinking of attending college here when she died. From the evidence on this site, she was deeply loved—and for good reason.
