Local man hits $1 million jackpot at watering hole
It would be fair to say visiting a bar isn’t typically a profitable venture, but it recently paid off big for a Chico-area man.
Mark Leary won $1 million by purchasing a California Lottery scratcher at the Studio Inn off The Esplanade, according to a California Lottery press release. Leary had to take the winning ticket into the restroom to make sure he had won the top prize due to dim lighting in the lounge. After having the retailer check the ticket, he was given an exciting message.
“She told me to come in to the lottery office today and claim my prize,” Leary said. “It made for a restless, long night.”
The Studio Inn will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
