We remember

On Sunday Sept. 11 in Children’s Park, Chico Mayor Scott Gruendl reads a proclamation commemorating the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Seated to the right of Gruendl are, from left, California National Guard Sergeant Bruce Himelright and Staff Sergeant Timothy McClurg. McClurg returned to Chico last November with a Purple Heart, surviving wounds to his foot and hip after being injured by a roadside bomb while on duty in Iraq. Below, Pranab Banik, program director for Azad’s Martial Arts family center, (which coincidently sponsored a “family fun day” in the park) persuades Carol Eberling, left, and Linda Furr to keep their pro-peace signs at a distance so as not to “politicize the children.” Furr said, “We’re not here to politicize the children, we’re here to promote peace.”
