A dream fulfilled

A DREAM FULFILLED<br>After nearly three years, Joe Person Sr. and the Chico Community Coalition finally saw the unveiling of a monument to slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The three-hour event held at Community Park Feb. 19 brought out an estimated 1,400 people who enjoyed a number of performances and speakers. Biggs artist Donald Howard said he began work on the 7-foot bronze-and-granite statue in June and finished it just days before the dedication. The event also celebrated the changing of Whitman Avenue to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
